MEMBER SERVICES

We offer four different levels of membership to best meet the needs of the behavioral health community we serve.

Becoming a member of IABH brings you many benefits, including access to the largest advocacy network of behavioral health care providers, opportunities to apply for ground-breaking new practice improvement initiatives, access to leading experts in the field of addiction and mental health, and so much more. The Illinois Association for Behavioral Health is committed to providing our members with an excellent membership experience.  IABH will consider all information submitted by an applicant and base our decision on the responses provided and the information obtained by IABH as a result of reviewing the qualifications, character, and quality of the applicant. Negative responses to individual requests will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from membership. IABH’s decision will be based upon the totality of the evidence. All decisions are subject to IABH’s absolute discretion and awarding membership is not a right.

Agency membership is open to addiction and/or mental health prevention, education, treatment or recovery support service providers operating in Illinois. By becoming an Agency Member of IABH, your agency will have a full membership in the National Council for Mental Wellbeing (a $5,087 value) which is the leading national association advocating on behalf of behavioral health providers nationwide.  Other Agency Member benefits related to the National Council Membership include:

  • Access to the largest advocacy network of behavioral health providers in the country.
  • An opportunity to apply for ground-breaking new practice improvement initiatives.
  • Access to leading consultants, trainers, and other field experts on relevant and timely topics such as compliance and risk management, healthcare integration, healthcare reform operationalization and strategic planning, HIT, EHR, and more.
  • Member discounts for Mental Health First Aid trainings, learning management systems, the National Council bookstore, and JOBank postings.
  • Access to the National Council Member list serve.

IABH lends its experience and expertise to its Agency Members by providing a variety of services:

  • Access to information from IABH staff participation in state, regional, and national committees and projects.  Our staff understands the importance of creating lasting relationships with policy makers at every level of state government.
  • Federal and state legislation, budget, Medicaid funding, and regulation updates and action alerts.
  • Active involvement in committees within every area of policy and practice—public policy, prevention, mental health and addiction practice, children & adolescents, conference, and others.
  • Access to dedicated and knowledgeable IABH leadership staff which represents a combined 40+ years of service in the behavioral health field and 40+ combined years advocating at the state and federal level for mental health and addiction services.
  • Agency representation through IABH in regularly scheduled meetings with Illinois Department of Human Services leadership which gives agency members a voice in policy decisions as they are being discussed.
  • Gerald (Jud) DeLoss, JD, IABH's CEO, has represented behavioral healthcare providers for over 20 years. He provides the Association with legal guidance on fraud and abuse compliance, strategic acquisitions, reimbursement and managed care, parity, and privacy of behavioral health information.  Jud has testified before Congress as a subject matter expert on 42 CFR Part 2 and served as an expert witness in privacy disputes.
  • Marketing and PR consulting for IABH is provided by David Ormsby, who served as the press secretary under several legislative leaders including House Speaker Michael J. Madigan before beginning his consulting practice.

Corporate membership is open to organizations or individuals doing business with behavioral healthcare providers. Affiliate membership is open to governmental agencies and non-profit: coalitions, funders, associations and advocacy groups.  IABH lends its experience and expertise to its Affiliate Members by providing a variety of services:

Individual membership is granted to professionals who are credentialed by the Illinois Certification Board (ICB). IABH Individual Members benefit from communication among colleagues, increased recognition of addiction and mental health as treatable disease, and become closely aligned with IABH’s strong, 50+ year tradition.

Representation in State Government

IABH has strong ties to the Governor's office and legislature, access to DHS resources, participation in Governor's Advisory Council to ensure IABH's concerns are voiced, and access to a wealth of experience to secure funding. Staff seek input from members to inform our legislative and policy efforts.

Dedicated Staff

The staff of the IABH is comprised of lobbyists and legislative liaisons which hold national affiliations and connections to state representation. Staff assist and support members and are available via phone or email. 

Direct Email Communication 

Individual Members receive periodic news updates and action alerts through direct email messages, including a quarterly e-newsletter.  Additionally, a legislative update is provided to the Illinois Certification Board quarterly via their online newsletter.

Participation in IABH Committees

Individual members can participate in these Association committees which meet quarterly via conference call:

Educational & Information Services

Individual members are eligible for member registration discounts to the annual conference, trainings, webinars, and technical assistance offered through IABH. 

Professional Stature

IABH Individual Members benefit from the communication among colleagues, increased recognition of addiction and mental health as treatable disease, and become closely aligned with IABH’s strong, 50-year tradition.

Direct Service Prevention Programs

IABH administers Operation Snowball and their 70+ chapters in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, New York, Lithuania, and Poland. We also manage the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute - a nationally recognized addiction prevention and leadership training program for teens.  Individual members will receive notices of volunteer opportunities, which usually provide CEU’s from the Illinois Certification Board.
